NAMIBIA
Farm Ubuntu (“Humanity to Others”)
In 2024, TABW's founders purchased a 17-hectare plot of land in the "River Plots" area near Swakopmund, Namibia with the vision of transforming it into an agricultural estate that supports various social initiatives including:
Crop Production – production of vegetables and other agricultural products for supply to the local market to ensure fresh, local produce is available at affordable prices. The income generated will support farm operations, fund expansion activities and contribute to community support projects.
Agricultural Training Centre – facilitation of hands-on practical farming experience for aspiring farmers focusing on how to produce vegetables in a sustainable and financially viable manner including crop production, sustainable farming, business management and value addition.
Agri-Hub Community – growing the local agricultural industry by leasing portions of land to aspiring farmers for complementary agricultural activities such as poultry, pig farming and horticulture. By fostering a network of agricultural enterprises, we encourage resource sharing, innovation, knowledge exchange and job creation.

NAMIBIA
COSDEF Agriculture Project
Between 2018 and 2023, TABW partnered with the
Namibian Community Skills Development Foundation to
create an agriculture training garden in Swakopmund.
The project has trained over 200 people, assisted 250
individuals in establishing home gardens, employs 7 staff, diverts organic waste from landfill and sells fresh
vegetables to the local market.
The project became fully financially sustainable in
November 2023 and was officially handed over to COSDEF to manage independently.
NAMIBIA
Integrated Community Based Food Security (World Food Programme)
In 2023, TABW collaborated with the World Food Programme to revitalise neglected community gardens at health clinics and schools in five regions of Namibia.
The aim of these gardens is to provide fresh produce to vulnerable populations and generate income to sustain operations including employing locals.
Communities received training in construction/ maintenance of shade houses, drip irrigation, crop production techniques, poultry production, nutrition, management structures and basic business skills.
UGANDA
CEFORD Large Scale Farming Project
In November 2019 we partnered with Ugandan NGO, Community Empowerment for Rural Development (CEFORD) to establish a large scale farming project in the refugee resettlement area of Northern Uganda.
The aim of the project was to establish a commercial farm as an avenue for creating employment opportunities for members of both the host and refugee communities, address food security issues in the area and also reduce the reliance on donor funds by generating a sustainable source of funds to be invested back into the region in the form of other community development projects.
The project focussed on growing bulk crops such as maize and rice, as well as seasonal vegetables including onions, tomatoes, Sukuma wiki (Kale), cabbage and watermelon. Local distributors (mainly women) were engaged to sell the produce at the local markets.
POVERTY AWARENESS
The origins of Towards a Better World (TABW) trace back to our founder, Matt Napier, who embarked on extraordinary long-distance journeys to raise awareness about global poverty. Supported by his wife and co-founder, Matt's efforts demonstrated that with determination, anything is possible.

WALK TO A BETTER WORLD 2.0
2017 • NAMIBIA
An 1,850 km journey on foot, kicking a soccer ball the entire length of
Namibia from the Orange River on the South African border to the Kunene River on the
Angolan border. This challenge not only raised awareness of poverty but also generated
funding for development projects in collaboration with Empower Malawi and Caritas
Australia.
-
WALK TO A BETTER WORLD
2016 • WALVIS BAY TO MAPUTO • SOUTHERN AFRICA
An 2,300 km walk across Southern Africa, from Walvis Bay in
Namibia to Maputo in Mozambique. Matt completed this trek in 60 days whilst kicking a
soccer ball and living on less than US$1.50 per day (the global poverty line at the time) to
highlight the reality that 1.3 billion people live in such conditions. The journey raised
funds for projects across Africa in partnership with Oxfam Australia, The Fred Hollows
Foundation, CARE Australia, and Caritas Australia.
-
THE GLOBAL POVERTY WALK
2013 • PERTH TO SYDNEY
This epic 4,500 km walk across Australia took five months to complete. Walking from Perth to
Sydney while bouncing an Aussie Rules football, Matt endured extreme temperatures ranging
from -8°C to +45°C all in an effort to bring attention to global poverty. His efforts gained
coverage from over 130 media outlets, and he engaged with schools, politicians, and
community groups to advocate for an increase to Australia’s foreign aid.
-
